When R5 guitarist Rocky Lynch turned 21, his bandmates did what any good friends would do: they rented a car, drove to Vegas, and partied like rockstars. Being actual rockstars, they also brought a cameraman along to document the whole whirlwind adventure. The L.A. pop rock act, composed of brothers Ross, Riker, and Rocky Lynch, their sister Rydel, and drummer Ellington Ratliff, later decided that the footage was the perfect match for "Wild Hearts," the rollicking second single off their sophomore album Sometime Last Night.
"'Wild Hearts' is all about living life to the fullest," says bassist Riker. "Lyrically, we wanted it to represent how we live our lives; being spontaneous, being in the moment and just ready for anything, going brave into the night and never slowing down."
In the video, which we're premiering below, the band hops in a vintage convertible and hits the road, then breaks down in the desert. (The car didn't survive the trek.) Eventually, though, they reach the Strip and get their party on.
"We wanted to make a video that had something that was really happening in real life," recalls Riker. "We didn't really know what was going to come out of it, but when we got close to making the trip, "Wild Hearts" just felt like the right song to put to it. The whole weekend was full of celebrations: the hotel had champagne waiting for us in our rooms; Tao got us a table and brought this massive cupcake for Rocky and a huge happy birthday sign. We're going back to play three shows for New Years! I cannot wait.
